چکیده

In the new millennium, technology and technological knowledge will continue to experience sustained rates of growth in no small part because of greatly enhanced information and communication technology. As our understanding of technology becomes greater, developments come faster, leading to near exponential growth of ideas, inventions and products. This in turn drives an increasing complexity and interdependency in manufacturing enterprises as more and more knowledge is required to fulfill customer expectations. The accelerated evolutions in the various fields of Information Technology (IT) enables us to investigate newer manufacturing paradigms to design and produce superior goods more efficiently which are reliable and low-priced. From the sequential computing era the modern industry has already entered the parallel-computing epoch and the trend for parallel processing as a means of providing high performance computational facilities for large scale manufacturing applications has been investigated widely. The promising continuous growth of the Internet will provide tremendous potential for remote integration, reliable electronic data interchange and implementation of expert multimedia applications in the manufacturing industry. The growth of the World Wide Web (WWW) and the Internet has propelled the software developers to produce more powerful and intelligent software applications. In this paper, we investigate the current technology trends and its impact on the manufacturing industry in the new millennium.
